About Antigua Furniture Guild
The Definition of “Guild” from Webster’s New World Dictionary is - “In Medieval times, a union of men in the same craft or trade to uphold standards and protect the members / an association of people with similar interests or pursuits.”
Antigua Furniture Guild is just that, an union of the most talented carpenters, wood carvers and turners, gilders, leather craftsmen, blacksmiths, and finishers in Peru building high quality, authentic looking Spanish Colonial Furniture Reproductions and Lighting in wood, leather and iron. Starting in the 17th century the Spanish conquistadors brought some of the best masters from Europe. From these masters, Spanish Colonial Furniture was born. These “maestros” have been hand-crafting the most exquisite art in furniture and accessories and upholding the standards from their forefathers of four centuries ago.
Peru was and is that marvelous country of mystery and fascination of culture ranging thousands of years even before the Incas and the final conquest of the Spanish in the 1500s. From here we have rediscovered and brought back to life an almost lost period of art in furniture, architectural pieces and accessories.
While living in Peru for 23 years, I traveled the country-side of Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia, searching Spanish Colonial pueblos and cities dating back to the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.
Over the years, we have owned and restored over 5000 pieces of antique Spanish Colonial furniture, architectural items and fabulous accessories handed down from generation to generation from the original hacienda families and town’s people. Over 1000 Spanish Colonial benches, 500 tables, 800 chests, 500 doors, 400 frames, 300 leather boxes, 100 document boxes, 200 shelves, 100 armoires and cabinets, and hundreds of misc. accessories, the large majority of them carved and gilded, have passed through our expert hands for restorations.
Many of the maestros that helped me restore antiques since the beginning, continue with me in making antique furniture reproductions.

What sets Antigua Furniture apart from “the others” is Antigua’s unique finishing that makes our Spanish Colonial Furniture reproductions look and “feel” authentic. Guests may wonder and inquire about “your antique”. Antigua’s maestros are schooled in traditional age-old methods in preparing colors and stains along with specially prepared waxes and shellacs as top coats to give the final finish a long lasting antique patina.
Some clients prefer their own color to combine with the tones and colors of their unique environment. Providing us with color samples or exact finishes, we will create your finish to your satisfaction. Photo approval is the last step that we require before packaging and shipping.
In 1996 at the request of some of our Antique dealers, we began manufacturing a complete line of sun-dried Rawhide Shades which has grown from 4 styles to 19 styles in 6 sizes and 5 styles of chandelier & sconce shades.
At further requests from our dealers, we began hand-crafting wrought iron sconces in an unique Spanish style using reproductions of original antique chest lock-plates for the wall plates. Since then we have developed our Spanish Sconce line to include Chandeliers and vanity lights and also adding a complete lighting line of intriguing Mission Style lighting incorporating our Rawhide with wrought-iron. Finally in 2004, we created Antigua’s Reproduction Furniture Line to bring forth to the trade a wide range of Old World Furniture, copied from the originals and not before available except as original antiques.
Custom made to order by size and antiqued to the desire of the client, our furniture looks and feels like the original antique. Stocked with 1000s of board feet of Spanish Cypress, Walnut and Cedar that is kilned dry, we are ready to make your next authentic looking reproduction in the size and finish that you want. Whether it is Spanish Colonial, Spanish, Portuguese or Italian or whether it is our design or yours, we can create your exact reproduction furniture.
