ANTIGUA - WOOD TONES

What sets Antigua Furniture apart from "the others" is Antigua's unique finishing that makes our reproductions to look and "feel" authentic. Guests may wonder and inquire about "your antique". Antigua's maestros are schooled in traditional age-old methods in preparing colors and stains along with specially prepared waxes and shellacs as top coats to give the final finish a long lasting antique patina. Some clients prefer their own color to combine with the tones and colors of their unique environment. Providing us with color samples or exact finishes, we will create your finish to your satisfaction. Photo approval is the last step that we require before packaging and shipping.

ANTIGUA - TEMPERA COLORS

Tempera is the primary type of artist's paint and techniques that were prevalent in Southern Europe's Middle Ages, especially in early Renaissance Italy. Tempera is the oldest paint known. It was used in wall paintings of ancient Egypt, Babylonia and Greece. Its distinctive characteristics have enabled tempera to survive the era of oil painting. Antigua’s maestros are well schooled in the art of tempera like their Spanish forefathers in the colonial era of Spain’s colonies in South America. Each color is prepared at the moment that the piece is ready for color and what is left over, discarded. Each reproduction piece is first distressed, then hand painted with a brush stroke to give the appearance of old paint, then given topcoats of specially prepared waxes and sealers to give the final finish a long lasting antique patina.
